Vernon Sylvester Sigman, 101, of Trafalgar, IN passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026. He was a 62-year resident of the Nineveh area.

He was born June 28, 1924 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Morsain Sylvester Sigman and Lura (Hadley) Sigman.

The family  moved from Oklahoma to Indiana in 1937.

Vernon was a 1942 graduate of Manila High School in Rush, County Indiana and then in 1986 earned his associates degree from Indiana University Bloomington, IN.

He was a United States Navy Veteran of WW II having served in the Pacific Theater in Maui, Hawaii and the Marshall Islands.

Vernon was a lifelong farmer spending nearly forty years milking cows. Then in 1984 moved into vegetable farming, building 2 greenhouses at age 80.

He was a member of First Christian Church in Bargersville, IN where he had served as a deacon.  Vernon enjoyed gardening and painting.  He was part of the first Honor Flight to Washington D.C. and wrote a book "First Hundred Years".

Survivors include his wife Patricia Malmquist-Sigman, his son James M. Sigman (Patricia) of Trafalgar, IN and Daniel Sigman (Elizabeth) of Columbus, IN, ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and a sister Loren Baxter of Mooresville, IN.

His parents and 2 brothers Bruce and Keith along with a son Stephen W. Sigman who preceded him in death on June 26, 2025.

Pastor Dustin Hite will conduct a celebration of life service on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at 10:30 AM at First Christian Church, 101 East Street, Bargersville, IN 46106 with military honors to follow by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
