William Shawn Layton, 51, of Bargersville, IN passed away Monday, September 30, 2024 at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis, IN.

He was born July 10, 1973 in Franklin, IN to William C.M. Layton and Shelia Sue (Bryant) Layton.

He was a 1992 graduate of Center Grove High School.

He entered the United States Army immediately following graduation, having served in Operation Iraqi Freedom having received the Army achievement medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and Iraq Campaign Medal with Campaign Star.  During his military service, he also had great medic and handy man skills.

After his military service, he had been employed by the Johnson County Highway Department for 10 years. He loved four-wheeling and dirt-biking, and building and riding BMX bikes.  He enjoyed plowing snow in Bargersville with his four-wheeler.

Survivors include his children Taylor Cooley (Brandon) of Mooresville, IN, Lexi Layton (fiancé Johnnie Bogardus) of Mooresville, IN and Shawn Layton (Ally) of Bargersville, IN, grandchildren Cassandra Cooley, Johanna Cooley, Owen Cooley, Lynnley Cooley, Allison Bogardus, Jillian Bogardus and baby Layton due in March of 2025, his mother Shelia Sue (Bryant) Layton of Bargersville, IN and his sister Malinda Kost (Curtis) of Martinsville, IN.

His father William C.M. Layton preceded him in death in 1994.

A celebration of life service will be conducted on Tuesday, October 8, 2024 at 7PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN with military honors being conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and Franklin American Legion Post 205 Honor Guard and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/williamlayton . Friends may call Tuesday, October 8, 2024 from 4PM until service time at the mortuary.
