William Ivan Woodall

William Ivan Woodall, 80, of Whiteland, IN passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on September 7, 1945, in Science Hill, Ky. Bill was the son of Geneva, and Ivan Woodall. He carried with him throughout his life the values of hard work, loyalty, courage and devotion to his family.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, nephews Denny Woodall, Jimmy Pardadise, and Mark McCray, and niece Jenny Robinson, siblings Mary Richards, Danny Woodall, Glenda Sanders, and Margaret Paris.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Joy Gay (McCray) Woodall of Whiteland, IN, his daughter, Chelie Gay of Greenwood, IN, his son William Joseph Woodall and daughter-in-law Kasi Sue of Greenwood, IN, his grandchildren Ciara Joy Kelley, Benjamin Neil Kelley, Donavin Joseph Woodall, Kyla Sue Woodall, Spencer Michael Woodall, and great-grandson Vincent Swan Kelley all of Greenwood Indiana. He is also survived by his siblings Arlen Woodall (Brenda) of Trafalgar, IN, Patty Bechert (Joe) of Shelbyville, IN, Rebecca Black (James) of Franklin, IN, Brenda Caldwell (Jim) of Shelbyville, IN and David Woodall (Pamela) of North Vernon, IN, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 82nd Airborne Division. The strength he displayed during his military service remained a part of who he was throughout his life.

A hardworking man, Bill spent many years as an owner-operator, driving a semi for local farmers and the Farm Bureau Co-Op. He retired from Arvin Automotive after years of dedicated service as well. He took great pride in providing for his family and in a job well done.

Bill was known for his fun-loving spirit and his larger than life personality. He loved wheeling and dealing and was always buying and selling or trading automobiles. He took pride in his home, lawn and vehicles, and enjoyed attending car shows whenever he could. He loved playing poker, shooting dice, sharing stories and spending time with family and friends.

The ocean held a special place in Bill’s heart; some of his happiest memories were made vacationing with those he loved. Above all else, he cherished his family. His grandchildren were one of his greatest joys, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Bill believed in respect, and earning it. He was never afraid to stand up for what he believed in or to protect the people he loved. Strong, brave, determined, and fiercely loyal, he faced life head on and met challenges with courage.

Those who knew Bill will remember not only his strength and work ethic, but also his laughter, generosity, quick wit, and the love he had for his family. His legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the values he passed down to those who loved him. Bill raised strong and independent children. His faith was quiet, but genuine. He believed in “walking the walk, not just “talking the talk”.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Pastor Kendall Wildey will conduct a service on Monday, June 22, 2026 at 2PM at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN and will be live-streamed at www.swartzmortuary.com/obituary/williamwoodall.

Visitation will take place on Monday, June 22, 2026 from 11AM until service time at the mortuary.

Burial will follow with military honors being conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard and the Franklin American Legion Honor Guard.
